Bio - Amanda Thomas
To me, the term 'Midnight Sun' represents the rare or impossible, by giving my debut album this title might show just how much it means to me to have made it.
I have an eclectic taste in music. I was brought up listening mainly to pop on the radio, so that has probably had a large influence, but I have also been involved in musical theatre, a jazz & gospel ensemble and I went to the college of country music in Tamworth. I don't know who I sound like, but here are some artists people have suggested my voice and/or my music reminds them of; Sheryl Crow, Brooke Fraser, The Corrs, Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant and Missy Higgins. My style is probably best described as a mix of pop, southern-folk, country and rock.
I worked on this album with my good friend and guitarist (multi-instrumentalist) David Longo, who produced it with me. I started out recording a demo of 4 songs when David was building his studio and we were both learning as we went. I was really happy with the demo and decided to make an album. I recorded the basic tracks with the band at Paradise Studios and finished the album at The Dock Studio.
I wanted to get the right vibe for the album and I'm very pleased with how it's turned out, it was a huge learning curve and all totally independent. As a first album I think it's quite amazing what I have achieved and I can't wait to make the next one.... Of course I have started writing it already...
